The following social events are offered on ISSAC 2004

• Post-ISSAC Excursion

Conference Banquet

The banquet will take place in the restaurant Rhin on the evening of July 6.

Standard and ACM/SIG registrations include one banquet ticket. Additional banquet tickets for accompanying people and for students can be ordered via the on-line registration or can be bought at the registration desk. A ticket costs 65 USD (~53 EUR), a child ticket costs 30 USD (~24 EUR).

Requests for vegetarian menu can be declared via the on-line registration form, or, after closing the on-line registrations, by sending an email to the Registration Chair.

Post-ISSAC Excursion (July 8, 2004)

The ISSAC 2004 Local Organization is pleased to offer for ISSAC attendees and accompanying persons the possibility to do some sightseeing in Santander surrounding country.

On Thursday, July 8, right the next day after the end of ISSAC 2004 scientific program, a one-day trip has been organized by (and it is the entire responsibility of) the travel agency

The Excursion

The excursion totalizes less than 70 miles (120 kilometers), but it mixes cultural visits (to a couple of picturesque villages, with some remarkable features: some of the world s best prehistoric paintings, romanic churches and old mansions, a Gaudi's modernist building, etc.) and a relaxing promenade (with optional swimming) along a semi-wild beach.

9:00

Meeting at the lobby of the Hotel Santemar.

9:00-12:30

Santillana and Altamira:
Travelling by bus to Santillana del Mar (30 kms. from Santander).

1. Visit to the Altamira Museum, including a guided visit to the replica of the Altamira Caves (Notice: the original, adjacent, cave is no longer open for visitors)
2. Guided visit to the Middle Age town of Santillana del Mar.

13:30-17:00

Free time at the Playa de Oyambre (near Comillas, distant some 30 kms. from Santillana). A natural park, with a pretty beach and beautiful landscapes. It is expected that the participants provide on their own some picnic lunch (and some towels, swimming suits...).

17:00 - 20:00

Guided visit to Comillas. A small town whose main buildings come from the XVII and XVIII centuries, but includes also some remarkable modernist works from the Spanish architect Gaudi.

20:00-20:30

Return to Santander.

Registration Procedure and Fee

Please, see the important remarks below.

1. The fee for the excursion is 30 EUR per person, if the registration takes place before June 1, 2004 (same deadline as ISSAC early registration).
2. After June 1 (and until July 4, if there are still vacant places), registration will be subject to a charge of 5 EUR (i.e. 35 EUR in total).
3. To register just send a mail to viajesyllera@ceoecant.es, mentioning in the Subject: ISSAC 04 Excursion.

In this case, please be sure to make explicit in the transfer order your name and the subject: ISSAC 2004 Excursion. A copy of the bank transfer receipt should be immediately faxed to Viajes Yllera, including other relevant information such as number of accompanying persons (including the participant).

Important Remarks

• The excursion will take place only if we can get at least 30 participants.
• We regret to inform you that we may have, without prior notice, to limit the number of persons in the excursion, because of difficulties to book in advance the planned visit to the different monuments. If this is the case, a first come first serve policy will be strictly adopted.
• The visit to the Altamira replica is limited to groups of up to 20 persons, but it does not take too long; while waiting, one can visit the Altamira Museum, but this solution is not adequate for a large number of groups.
  Therefore, depending on the number of persons in the excursion, we may have to change slightly the schedule and to proceed first visiting the replica with two or three groups, while the remaining groups visit Santillana, and conversely.
• The excursion to the beach of Oyambre could be shortened or canceled depending on the weather conditions.
• Cancellation policy: following that of the general ISSAC registration, there will be a 5 EUR penalty for cancellations notified before June 1, 2004. In any case, the devolution will be done through the credit card, not in cash. Cancellations after this date will be not refunded.
