Traveling
By plane:
Vienna has an international
airport (IATA-Code: VIE) with daily connections to many major destinations
in the world. There are several connections from the airport to the city
centre: either the CAT line (16 minutes non-stop, 12 € for one-way,
21 € for a two-way ticket), or the S7 line (25 minutes,
4,20 € for a one-way ticket including the public transport system in
Vienna), or the usual railway to Hauptbahnhof (16 minutes non-stop
(4,20 € for a one-way ticket including the public transport system in
Vienna). CAT and S7 go daily every 30 minutes
to Wien Mitte, which is located in the heart of Vienna.
Taxis are quite expensive, however, there are companies with flat rates that
you can prebook (for example 34 € with
http://www.airportdriver.at/en).

By train:
Please note that there are two different railway companies in Austria:
ÖBB
and Westbahn. ÖBB tickets have to be
purchased in advance (either online or at the ticket vending machine / counter
at the train station), while Westbahn tickets are sold on the train. Tickets from
one company are not valid for trains of the other company. Vienna has several
train stations, most importantly the "Hauptbahnhof" (main train station, ÖBB)
and the "Westbahnhof" (all Westbahn trains stop here).

Local transportation:
The conference venue, TU Wien, is located near Karlsplatz, which is also the name
of the closest subway station. From Hauptbahnhof
you reach the TU Wien via the subway line U1 (2 stops,
direction Leopoldau). From Wien Mitte, you can reach the University via the subway
line U4 (2 stops, direction Hütteldorf). For other connections, see the
network plan of Wiener Linien.

Visa:
Austria is part of the Schengen area, which means that citizens from
countries outside the European union may need a visa for entering Austria.
Here you can find out
whether this applies to you, and how the visa application procedure works. In
case you need an invitation letter for this (or for your academic institution
who may request such a letter for funding applications), please contact us.
