2 Introduction

The Combinat project started at the Axiom Workshop at the end of April 2006 as an attempt to provide the features of the MuPAD package MuPAD-Combinat in Axiom. We are very grateful to Nicolas Thiery for his initial motivation to enter this subject and for his constant support.

The Combinat project is built by means of ALLPROSE. It is a collection of Aldor source code files that will be turned into an Aldor library by ALLPROSE.

The documentation of the whole Combinat project is divided into two parts.

1. The Aldor code of the library together with a testsuite. This part consists of the files mentioned in Section 3.
2. An optional¹ description of ALLPROSE, i. e., a description of the building process (including Makefiles and Perl scripts) that produces the Combinat library.

   The description of ALLPROSE is not included in this document.
