Motivation
Definition: a proof is a structured argument that a proposition
is true.
- You claim that a formula is a (true) proposition.
- You believe that it is true.
- You want to convince yourself about this.
- You want to make sure that it is true.
- You want to convince someone else about this.
- You want to make a skeptic opponent admit that it is true.
Proving is the art of (scientifically) arguing.
