The design of parallel algorithms is heavily influenced by the view that the programmer has of the underlying parallel execution model. It is important for her to know about the principles of parallel systems, their basic features, their possibilities and their limitations.

This course will provide an integrated view of parallel systems along the dimensions of algorithms, programming languages and models, system software, and hardware architectures. Class presentation will be accompanied by practical programming work on a Convex Exemplar SPP1200/24-XA distributed shared memory multiprocessor:

Experience in C programming is assumed.
