The conference will take place at the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC), which is an institute of the Johannes Kepler University in Linz. It is located in the Castle of Hagenberg, a romantic, medieval castle amidst the lovely, hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel 20 km north east of Linz, the provincial capital of Upper Austria, located halfway between Salzburg and Vienna.
More information about RISC can be found on the institute's web page and also on the folder.
Linz has an international airport (LNZ) with connections to Barcelona (Girona), Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Graz, Cologne, London, Munich, Palma de Mallorca, Salzburg, Vienna, and Zürich (summer flights 2008). From the Linz airport you can take a bus to the center of Linz (see the schedule, connection from Flughafen LNZ to Linz, or download the timetable. Note that on Sundays the connection is not so good.), or a taxi. The bus stop Linz Hbf Busterminal/Kärntnerstraße is just in front of the hotel Ibis, from where the conference shuttle bus will go Hagenberg. It is also in front of the Linz train station and Linz bus station, from where public transport goes to Hagenberg.
Another alternative is train: Take a free shuttle from the airport to Hoersching train station and then get to Linz from there by train.
Other international airports nearby Linz are Vienna
(VIE, 2 hours by train/car) and
Munich (MUC, 3 hours by train/car).
If you arrive in Vienna, take the Vienna Airport Lines bus to Vienna West train station (Wien Wesbahnhof) and then continue by train.
The bus stop is right in front of the airport arrivals hall. Single fare: 6 Euro.
Download the Vienna Airport Lines bus timetable.
Linz can also be conveniently reached by train from Vienna, Salzburg, or Munich (Train connections can be looked up using the Travel Planner).
Shuttle service between Linz and Hagenberg in conference and workshop days will be organized. In the morning the bus will pick up participants first from the hotel Ibis Linz, then will stop on Hauptplatz in front of the Landesreisebuero, and will continue to Hagenberg. In the afternoon the bus will bring the participants back to Linz, first stopping on Hauptplatz and then at the hotel Ibis. The bus can be recognized with the sign "RISC Summer 2008" on it.
Download the shuttle timetable, and have a look at the meeting points in Linz.
IMPORTANT UPDATE! On Friday, July 18, the shuttle bus will stop in the morning at Untere Donaulände, in front of Oberbank, instead of Hauptplatz that will be closed for transport. See the updated meeting points in Linz.
